Window shopping in Cambridge

The best weekend of street photography yet.

I cant help it, im totally hooked.

I want to go out and shoot more street.

Its the challenge, finding something quirky, how close can you get to get that shot?, its the waiting game; waiting for someone to walk into the shot.

I've started to manual focus more; using zone focusing, knowing that anything in the 'zone' will be in focus. That way I can set up my focus zone, step forward and take the shot. The last thing I need is for the camera to hunt for focus!  I don't want anyone turning round wondering what im doing!!! LOL

If anything, im becoming more adventurous, im not shooting so many peoples backs anymore, im photographing people walking right towards me.

Often all you need is a smile after taking the shot, no one questions a smile.

This weekend ive started shooting with windows in mind; reflections, advertising, shooting through the window. Life is lived around windows, windows are everywhere.

Just look at the similarities

Street Photography; Cartagena, Spain.

It was a good holiday.

Good weather, good food, good fun and some good photography experiences and subjects.

After the Mountain, street photography was my 2nd favourite photography past time on holiday.

The Spanish city of Cartagena was great; real hustle and bustle in the City centre. In between the shops and people, were bars and cafes serving real delicious tapas and cold beer! you cant beat beer and food. well you can beer, food and cake!

The thing I liked about this trip to Spain is that I really observed how much Spanish people like to congregate and chill with friends. The chilled vibe makes for some easy street photography.

Near the Roman theatre the roads and streets are on a gradient and offer some different views.

A quick beer stop!

Funny looking people in the city centre.

Remembrance of 9/11.

I loved the tight streets with tall old buildings on either side.

Light!

Do you ever feel like your being watched?
Seriously cool street art/graffiti

The Photography Show 2015

I used to go to car shows, now I go to photography shows.

Being a bit of a camera geek I was quite excited about going to this.

The show itself covers one of the halls at the NEC, so it could be bigger but the size also shouldn't be sniffed at as the place was crammed with stands and stalls and absolutely buzzing with people. In fact I don't see a need for a larger show as it took me 6 hours to walk round it all.

I purchased a new lens for my X-Pro 1; a 35mm f1.4, so far im liking it!

I also picked up a few memory cards for my 5Dmkiii.

All ready for the summer weddings.

The show is a mixture of large manufacturers such as Fujifilm, Canon, Nikon etc and smaller traders hoping to make it big. There are also talks, seminars and practical guides.

All in all a good day out. Laura even got a free massage so that kept her happy.

Im pretty sure its going to become an annual visit for me.

Wisbech; a strange place 2 - A man in the bin

Ok lets start with my greatest street photography find yet;

The man in the bin!

I really like street photography; walking around with my camera poised ready to find something quirky going on in everyday life. This was my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I couldn't believe walking past the museum in Wisbech and seeing this guy's head through the opening of the bin. It was a time where I was so excited to be out with my camera. This guy was so engrossed in his phone call and his roll ups that he didn't see me standing there taking pictures of him.

Who is this guy?
Who's he talking to?

Other street photography from the afternoon were too some good finds;

When finding a sign saying 'walk' you just have to wait for someone to walk past!

Job done.

Another man, another bin, another phone or 2.

This man has no face.

I personally like Wisbech; lots of fond memories of making music with school friends and a couple of years later drinking there with my mate Lee.

However the place does have a reputation for being rough (put politely). The textures, the grime, the rubbish bags, the bins, the weeds, the litter; all help to convey this dowdy image.

I was also hoping to carry on my theme of alleyways, I knew the Crescent in Wisbech would provide some of these.

I love the distortion from the fisheye lens
While walking around I found another piece of Penguin street art matching what I had found previously in another part of town, I wonder if anyone knows of anymore?

There was a cat stalking the penguin, it must be hungry.

Even the local council and PCSO are interested in up and coming local artists.

I walked down Norfolk Street; a tight and very busy road full of kebab shops and European stores to name a few. Safe to say there will always be something to take a photo of.

Shot from the hip, im sure he knew what I was up to.
Near Norfolk Street is St Peters Church; in the grounds are this bench and flower beds.

Contrast of alive and dead.

On the other side of the market place/town centre are numerous great little alley ways which will be worth a further visit sometime.

Im hoping in the next few weeks to visit a city, I aim for more street and building/architecture photography.

Thanks for looking.
