Fishers Shop, Sutton Bridge. How time has changed.

Towards the end of the summer of last year, thats right 2017 is now last year, I resisted a location that I 1st explored in 2014, heres the blog post; post;https://benchapmanphotos.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/exploring-close-to-home-in-sutton-bridge.html

Lloyd fancied a quick explore and I wondered how the place had changed almost 4 years later.

When I 1st visited, i was aware that it was once a shop only by the layout, shelves and price tags still visible. After that 1st visit, i tried to find out more information. Online i found a website about Sutton Bridge;  http://www.bridgewatch.org.uk, i emailed the people behind the site and the reply told me that the shop was Once 'Fishers', a small general store. I was also told that once it was hoped it could be renovated as a 'listed' building but the hopes were dashed by a lack of funding.

So three and a half years later, the site had been slightly improved; a broken fence, waste and overgrown vegetation and trees had somewhat been cleared. Windows had been removed around the building, though i do not know why?
I presumed someone was working on the building but once in side i could see no evidence of this.

Deterioration and dereliction continue to slowly consume the building. Rain continues to soak through the levels, one day to leave only the walls standing. But standing for how long?

Some of the same objects are still left in place, others are now lost.

Look into the darkness and find light.

If the old shop still stands in 4 years time i'll take another look. For now i'll continue to walk the dogs past and monitor what changes other make.

The 'elephant in the room' that is the Bridge Hotel continues to burden the village. I had a quick look in there too but this is the only photo.

On top of the bridge.

Recently I was lucky to be invited to go up to the control room of the Crosskeys Bridge in my home town (or is it village?) of Sutton Bridge.

Now, im sure everyone would automatically think landscape, landscape, landscape;
1) The fens in my opinion doesn't have a lot to offer in the way of spectacular views unless you want to see flat farmland.
2) There wasn't much going on in the sky either as the sun was high and bright which is not what a landscape photographer desires.
3) Im not much of fan of Landscapes anyway.

Instead, some may say, as per usual I focused on the things that others may pass by like the controls etc.

Ok scrap all of the above.

I did like watching the cars come and go down the long straight stretch of the A17 Towards kings Lynn.

I took a couple of shots trying to get a car in the right place to make the most of the distortion on my Wide angle lens.

I suppose the other thing Sutton Bridge is famous for other than the bridge, the clue is in the name after all, is the 337 million pounds power station.

Inside was quite cool, if you like levers, buttons and spinny type wheel things, Oh and don't forget the kettle!

Im not sure ill ever get the chance to go up again but im proud to think or say that ive been up there.
Now id like to go underneath it and see or mechanical parts at work.

The Bridge Hotel before its gone

Ive been major busy recently; weddings, baby's, newspapers, portraiture.

A family friend visited Wednesday and im going to be helping him with images for his website. I had a little play with a little lighting set up used for product photography, real cool, I cant wait to play with it again.

While Mark was here he left me his camera to play with; a Canon Powershot G10. In simple terms its a point and shoot camera. In more depth its a camera for enthusiasts who want to take control of the exposure settings but don't want a 'big' camera.  I looked at a similar model before I got into my Fuji cameras.

It's almost fits in the pocket, well it does as long as you have big pockets. Defo not one for skinny jeans.

The Bridge Hotel is getting demolished soon, I heard it was supposed to be a few weekends ago, that might of just been talk??? Anyway its covered in notices of demolition so I guess its really happening. Having a small camera and itching to shoot/get out of the house and enjoy the fleeting summer evening I got on my bike and took some shots of the outside. After all, ive got plenty of shots of the inside from previous explores.

Once you figure the buttons on the G10 its simple to use and fits in hand nicely, ive enjoyed using it. The image quality is not bad, could be better, I shouldn't compare image quality against a full frame Canon and a Fuji X camera its not in the same league, images do look a little noisy. Shooting at ISO 400 is rather surprisingly noisy. I don't think id like to even try ISO 800. However the smaller point and shoot nature of the camera prompted me to shoot at different angles, which again I enjoyed doing and allowed me to play with foregrounds and backgrounds in my usual tilted style.

Without a doubt my favourite image from the evening. Old phone boxes feature in everyone's memories and really are a British symbol. The layer after layer of red paint on the oldest phone boxes give them real texture. I like the play with depth and scale here; there is a large river in between the foreground and background
